Tesla’s plan is to provide a complete bundle of energy generation and storage solutions for residences across the World. The Powerwall 2 is made with a lithium ion battery which can be successfully mounted on any surface of your residence. Tesla has contracted Panasonic to make the basic cells of the Powerwall, while the battery module and pack are built in house by Tesla.
Tesla’s Powerwall 2 can very easily store electrical energy that is generated by the solar panels in the day. This energy which is stored can be used at night and such battery packs are very useful during times of outages. An interesting point here is that the Powerwall 2 can draw and store power from the electricity supplier’s grid when the rates are low. This can again be used later when you need it.
The Powerwall 2 comes with an app that lets you monitor the energy usage in your house and sends you weather alerts in case the coming weather is going to negatively affect power generation and storage.
With these features that the Powerwall 2, Elon Musk was famously quoted saying that you can leave the power grid completely if you wish to do so. You can effectively live completely off nature’s benevolence and stop paying electricity bills if you wish to do so.
One of the biggest advantages of this is that this energy is non polluting. In case of a power outage, you can still go about doing your work at home and will not have to depend on the government. Also, the Powerwall 2 is 30% cheaper than its nearest competitor.
