According to a report released on Monday this week, Indian mobile market is going to experience a milestone of total 265 million handset shipments by the end of 2016. Around 116 million units would be of smartphones and the remaining would be counted under “feature” phones segment. The inputs from various related sources bifurcated the digit very smoothly.

Another market research firm named, CyberMedia Research’s (CMR) released their “India Monthly Mobile Handset Market Review” report that mentioned the third quarter of 2016. In the report, it was written that India shipped around 197.5 million mobile handsets by the end of September 2016 itself, out of which 78.4 million were shipped during the third quarter alone.
Faisal Kawoosa who is the Principal Analyst of Telecoms at CMR stated, “All these years, Smartphone makers have been focusing on making the handsets affordable for more and more hands-on experience.”
The Great news is that 66 percent of the phones in the third quarter were “Made in India” which means they were manufactured here in our country itself. 98 percent of the total were using Android Operating System which means only 2 percent subscribers were there of Apple iPhones. Out of the 98 percent Android Smartphones, 25 per cent came preloaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.
The report further added, “Every second 4G Smartphone shipped during third quarter of this year in India, using third party chipset solution had a Qualcomm chipset. Sixty-six percent of the smartphones shipped were phablets.”
Also, Nearly 64 percent of the smartphones were quad-core, while 29 percent had a processor with clock rate of 1.3 GHz (Giga Hertz).
