According to some inside resources it is being stated that Lenovo is thinking to shutdown the production of Moto Watch till undefined period. The company head stated that the next watch would be released as soon as the market for Smartwatches increases.
We all knew the statement by Lenovo that stated that they won’t be releasing any Moto Watch in 2016 and some enthusiasts predicted that by the release of Android Wear 2.0 we could get another Moto watch in 2017 but sadly nothing seems to happen.
According to some resources it is being stated that the company has officially announced that they would be taking a “break” from the Smartwatch industry and won’t be releasing any Moto watch. The time duration for the “break” is still undefined and can’t be speculated because the statement itself is very bold of Lenovo.
Shakil Barat, who is the head of global product development at Moto, told all this to The Verge in a statement. The point to be noted here is that he stated that as soon as the market for the Smartwatch industry stabilizes itself and the demand increases they’ll “plan” to make a comeback. Still it’s not sure of them but who is going to kill a healthy lineup instantly with just a statement? This could be a marketing gimmick by Moto or it could be real statement. We can’t speculate as Moto 360 was among the most popular droid watches. He further stated “Wearables do not have broad enough appeal for us to continue to build on it year after year.”
Lenovo’s setting back from Smartwatch industry could be a loss for Google as Huawei and LG clearly stated being back from entering this segment and the remained Samsung itself is planning to make a self-made software for its watches. The last remaining Lenovo now has announced some other story.
Seems like 2017 is going to be a “Smartwatch free” year.
