Three Network Operators namely Airtel, Vodafone and Idea had stated to TRAI that the free calls that are being provided by Reliance JIO to their users are causing heavy network congestion to other networks as well. The three companies had submitted their statement jointly to the TRAI this week.
According to a source it is being reported that Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea had jointly told TRAI about the problems they are facing due to the perk given by Reliance JIO to its users of free calling to any network they wish too.
According to their statement there is a lot of network congestion going on due to Reliance JIO’s free calling service. Even the users of the respective networks are facing problems due to this which is at the end causing problems to these network providers only.
The source stated, “Trai has received replies from Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular. In their response, the operators have highlighted that the free voice calls by Reliance Jio is prompting people to use more minutes, thus leading to an increased traffic at the interconnection points.”
The source further stated that the incumbent operators have also taken the united stand that the termination charge of 14 paise per minute prescribed under the present IUC regime is much lower than the way they are facing. Due to high level of traffic asymmetry they all are facing increasing costs all the three firms stated.
These firms had also asked TRAI to take action on Reliance JIO on violating various traffic laws.
We all heard the news in the last period that Reliance JIO has accused telecom operators of not providing sufficient telecom points to which TRAI asked these players to provide JIO with much more of inter connectivity points but even this much is not sufficient to JIO”s network. There’s also news that Idea alone is providing 200% telecom points of what it own self uses for its users.
