Apple’s smart watch namely, Apple Watch has been banned from UK Cabinet meeting fearing that the watch can be “manipulated” by Russian hackers so as to gain “confidential” information out of the cabinet meetings of UK Government.
According to a report news has come that states that UK Government has restricted every politician to wear an Apple Watch during the cabinet meetings. To be precise with my words the watch has not only been restricted but has been literally banned to be brought in the cabinet hall. The reason stated for the same was that the Russian hackers could hack the microphone of the Apple Watch and then listen to the highly confidential talks being laid in the cabinet meetings.
And it is more than usual to know that why this blame is being laid on Russia as it was accused of the security hack on the Democratic National Committee last week that is based in USA.
A source told Telegraph in UK that, “The Russians are trying to hack everything.”
We can’t blame UK Government for banning particularly Apple Watch as it’s not the only product that’s banned from being brought in the cabinet halls. Mobile phones are also banned there and smart watches carry the same functionalities as well as the vulnerabilities are the same too then it’s pretty obvious now why Apple’s smart watch was banned.
It is also being reported that even Australia has banned the Apple Watch from being brought in during the Cabinet meetings by any politician. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s one of the advisor told Fairfax Media that everything ranging from glasses to running shoes that is connected to the internet must be handled with great care when it comes to official security and on communications security there is a need to put more of efforts too.
The advisor stated, “In a world in which it is necessary for government to have conversations that truly have no electronics in the room, there are going to be more and more items that will have to be locked away in cabinets.”
