Rafael Nadal has been replaced by another player from Spain Feliciano Lopez who holds a current world ranking of 26 for the first opening rubber of the Davis cup between the India vs. Spain game. As per the earlier schedule, Nadal was to play a singles match with Ramkumar Ramanathan at the RK Khanna Stadium to play the opening match of the Davis Cup. But since he is dealing with an upset stomach, he has been replaced by Lopez. In comparison to the 26th ranked player Lopez, his Indian competition is way behind and the current world ranking of 203.

Spain has clinched the Davis Cup for themselves for 5 times in years, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Considering their past record, they are not just the favorite team but are also considered as a strong contender to lift up the trophy again. Spain is hoping to enter into the world group again and therefore Davis Cup seems to be very important for them.

For all those fans who were expecting to see Nadal, are enraged with disappointment. Known as the kind of the clay court, Indians were waiting to see a glance of his in the Davis Cup match. India emerged as the winner of the Asia Group when they defeated South Korea and similarly, Spain had defeated Romania in their Europe Zone.

As per the previous records of the Davis club, India has been defeated by Spain twice and won only once against them. The last games that were played between these two countries were way back in 1965 and had unfortunately lost the tie 2-3.

If Nadal recovers, he would be playing the second rubber with Myneni on Sunday, 18th September.
