India announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand. KL Rahul held his place in India Test squad after an amazing indicating against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma has made into the squad after much theory encompassing the Mumbai batsman’s destiny ahead of the pack up to the selectors’ meet.
“Rohit Sharma is a fabulous player but he hasn’t got a longer run in Tests cricket. He has been picked for one Test and then rested an entire season and again picked. So the selection committee, along with coach and captain, have decided that whoever would be picked will be given a fair amount of chances,” Patil said while addressing the media after the India Test squad selection.
“It is not just Gautam Gambhir, we also have many senior players. It is good that we have younger players to be able to replace a senior player like Gambhir,” Patil said, lauding Rahul’s recent rise.
With many talented youths like Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey and Karun Nair holding up in the wings, the selectors were relied upon to accept an approach Sharma’s interest and have now chosen to give him another possibility.
Despite the fact that Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from the playing eleven for the last Test of the West Indies series, he has since addressed any questions that may have been in the selector’s brain with his 256-run-stand for India Blue in the Duleep Trophy final.
