“There is nothing wrong in someone fulfilling Prime Minister’s dream to provide digital connectivity” says Telecom Minister of India Mr. Manoj Sinha. He also stated that the revolutionary step that Reliance Jio took by offering free voice calls and mobile data at a low price is “healthy competition” that will ultimately benefit users in the long run.
In an interview to PTI, he also stated that the intention of Prime Minister’s Digital India campaign is to bridge the digital divide and use the Internet as a growth enabler allowing even remote and rural areas of India better way to communicate and connect with the outer world.
He also faced the political parties like Congress and AAP which were constantly criticizing Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi over featuring in a full-page newspaper advertisement as well as Tele Advertisements placed by Reliance Jio immediately after the launch plan at the RIL AGM.
What Did He Had To State?
He easily mocked out the situation and criticized the Congress for “doublespeak”, saying, “I have received letters from 10-20 senior Congress leaders complaining that Reliance Jio is not getting points of interconnect (from other operators) and that immediate action should be taken… It is doublespeak.”
Although he refused to be drawn into the debate on whether or not proper permission was taken from the Prime Minister for use of the photograph to promote Reliance Jio and said, “It will be better if you ask this question to the Prime Minister… whether there was a permission or not. I cannot give my opinion on this.”
On the price war unleashed by Jio, he stated: “Healthy competition in the sector is good for consumers and as a minister, I feel consumer is God.”
“Healthy competition in the sector is good for consumers and as a minister, I feel consumer is God.” This statement by our Telecom Minister clearly states that change is happening and thanks to Reliance Jio for providing tough competition to existing market rulers and making them cut down prices of their existing plans so as to stay in the market and our honorable Prime Minister for making laws lenient for startups and due to this move of him we are now as close as 50rs/GB of 4G data.
