An announcement was made that Sony Pictures acquires Ten Sports, which presently belongs to Zee Entertainment Enterprises. Ten Sports is considered as one of the leading sports channels in the South Asian region, but now it would be added to the network of Sony Pictures. Currently, all the sports-related broadcasts that are made by Sony are done on the Set Max. But now it is believed that all the sports endeavors like cricket, soccer, tennis, wrestling, etc. of Sony would be telecasted on the Ten Sports.
As per the statement of CEO of Sony Pictures, Mr. NP Singh, “I welcome Ten Sports to the Sony family. The acquisition of Ten Sports will strengthen Sony’s offering for viewers of cricket, football and fight sports, complementing our existing portfolio of international and domestic sports properties.”
In this acquisition, all the channels namely TEN 1, TEN 1 HD, TEN 2, TEN 3, TEN Cricket, TEN Sports would be acquired by the Sony Group and improve the entertainment level for people in the entire South Asian sub-continent.
Talking regarding broadcasts, TEN Sports currently has the rights to broadcast various leading games and leagues like WTA events of Tennis, cricket matches for the countries like Pakistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies and Sri Lanka, WWE, French League and UEFA in football, and much more.
Amidst all this, Punit Goenka, Managing Director of Zee Entertainment said that this decision is a strategic move they are making to focus mainly on the areas like movies, business, live events, etc. He said, “While I have always been proud of our Sports business, I firmly believe that Sony will add more value to it by taking it to even greater heights. I wish them all the success.”
