Today a shoe was thrown at Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at  a function in Isru of Khanna in Punjab. The police has said that a youth who is convener of Aam Aadmi party in Dhanaula, Barnala has thrown the shoe.

The chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had come to observe the death anniversary of Kartar Singh Isru, freedom fighter. The shoe missed the target and the man was caught by the people gathered there.

DIG of Ludhiana Range, Gurinder S Dhillon told that the accused is convenor of AAP in Dhanaula. The accused wanted to grab attention to generate funds and to rise in hierarchy.

He also said that the accused joined AAP a few months ago. He works at a cloth shop and three other members including Hardeep Singh, Mahinder Pal Dhanjian were also there to record the footage of the shoe-throw drama.

The man is identified as Vikram Kumar, 36 year old of Dhanaula in Barnala.The DIG also claimed that the accused had recorded the video and was aiming to circulate it to the media to gain publicity. He also added that since foolproof security measures were in place, the shoe did not reach the chief minister.

A senior police official said that the accused was arrested from the tent only at around 1.30pm whereas his accomplice managed to flee. He added that the chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had just started to deliver his speech when they carried out this incident.
The DIG mentioned that the accused has been put under preventive detention. The police are exploring legal angles to book him under criminal offence. He added that efforts are being made to nail the other accused.
A senior police officer said that police are also probing the involvement of senior AAP leaders in the incident.

Meanwhile, sources had said that youth also raised slogan ‘Inquilab Zindabad‘ before he was arrested by police. It also added that the man was perhaps upset because of unemployment.
