In India, the 4G enabled device shipment had grown 18% in the period of 2016 April- June by reaching 18.2 million from 15.4 million in last quarter, says CMR – the research firm last week.

On this finding, CMR envisions the growing shipment of these 4G enabled device may reach by 125 million by end of this year. In overall shipment, total percentage of smartphone had been 97.8% that was followed by 1.6% data card shipment and 0.6% Tablet PCs. In smartphone segment, Samsung came up as the leader with around 41% market share; however, LYF and Microsoft had 8.5% and 8.6% market share respectively.

As per CMR, the second shipment of smartphone manufacturers like LeEco, OnePlus, InFocus, Vivo, Gionee and Oppo may double the 4G shipments by coming quarters for the fulfilment of increasing demand as 4G services of Reliance Jio have gone active.

In 4G market, Reliance Jio has created an unexpected buzz within few days of its arrival in the market. It is the latest entrant in the telecom industry of India which has partnered with many handset makers like Panasonic, Asus and Microsoft for featuring its 4G service in few weeks earlier. Moreover, Reliance launched its own LYF smartphone brand.

According to Principal Analyst for Telecoms in CMR, Mr. Faisal Kawoosa, “With services becoming live, it will be now more of a concern for operators, especially Jio (since it is a 4G only network) to actually see the ecosystem gets widened and encourage more and more handset players to come onboard and ramp up their shipments.”

In addition, another Telecom analyst in CMR, Krishna Mukherjee added that by second half of 2016, we can expect 25 to 30 4G enabled smartphone models in the market along with multiple variants. In these devices, the video and content consumption will get enhance with 4G services.
