Rock On 2 and Force 2 were the two big budget movies that were released just after the country wide demonetization led by the PM, Narendra Modi. Both the movies faced the brunt of the demonetization at the box office because people were already struggling to procure money for daily usage.Let’s see whether the Vidya balan film can cope with these conditions and earn some good money. Here is the box office collection of Kahaani 2 for it’s first day.
The release of Kahaani 2 was anticipated to go unaffected by demonetization for being released after Alia Bhatt and SRK’s ‘Dear Zindagi’. It did an excellent business on the domestic as well as international business. The box office run of ‘Dear Zindagi’ was smooth as butter as it was successful in earning more than 48 Crores at the domestic box office in just 7 days.
Box Office Collection of Kahaani 2 Day 1
But Kahaani 2 which was being sold as a taut thriller by the Sujoy Ghosh opened average at the box office as the theaters witnessed only 15-20% occupancy in the morning shows across the country. As was expected, Kolkata received a much better reception with a theater occupancy ranging between 40 to 50 percent on the first day. The prequel, Kahaani was a hit film and the sequel might benefit from the same so, the weekend performance will more or less depend upon the word of mouth now.
Kahaani 2 Box Office Collection Day 1 : Rs. 5-5.5 Crore
Expected Day 2 Box office Collection Kahaani 2: Rs. 7-8.1 Crore
Expected Weekend Box Office Collection Kahaani 2 : 18-22 CRORE
Australia box office
10,086 USD [Rs. 6.87 lacs] from 18 screens
New Zealand box office
1,390 USD [Rs. 94,750] from 2 screens
The movie will rake in some money on the weekends for being an action-packed drama and also provides a slight deviation from the heavy romantic atmosphere at the box office. Also, Kahaani 2 has managed an average of six to nine screen numbers in most multiplexes which raise its chance of collecting decent numbers in the opening weekend.
The movie has though crossed the collection of the prequel which was a meagre Rs. 2.5 Crore. And is expected to cross the mark of 20 Crore in the first week.
Meanwhile, Sujoy remains unaffected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move. “I don’t think demonetisation will affect my film. It’s all about priority so if people would really want to watch it, they will definitely go to theatres. It doesn’t matter if there is a currency problem in the country,”
“There are difficult times and something is always going on in the country so I think we shouldn’t give it a much thought. Many people have appreciated the trailer so I hope they will go to the theatres,” Sujoy added.
