The examination of National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted for those students who have academic talent and high intellect. This examination is a national level scholarship program to pick talented students. It is conducted in two parts in which 5 lakh candidates participate in a year. The stages of the examination is as follows, first stage of the exam is NTSE Stage 1 and conducted by the UTs to select candidates for stage 2 which is at national level. The stage 1 examination is conducted on 5, 6 & 13 November in the whole country. NTSE stage 1 and stage 2 examination includes 200 questions which are divided as follows, 50 questions are for language test (English/Hindi) sections and Mental Ability Test (MAT), whereas remaining 100 questions are for Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The qualifying test is the language test, whereas remaining two tests are for short listing candidates for their next step which is stage 2 exam. There should be 40 percent marks in the stage 1 examination so that they can be qualified for stage 2. The 32 percent marks are for the reserved category students.

All the selected candidates will be given scholarship according to their level of the study. For XI and XII Class students Rs. 1250, for under graduate and post graduate students it is Rs. 2000. The scholarship for SC students is 15 percent and 7.5 percent for ST. On 14th may 2017 the NTSE stage 2 exam will be conducted. The result of the examination will be out within three months of the examination. The student’s total marks will be provided when the final merit list is prepared of the NTSE exam.

In the previous year it is announced that the scholarship will get doubled and is announced by the HRD Minister Smriti Irani but the confirmation of the same is not yet provided by NCERT.
